At Little Giants Nursery each member of staff is allocated a small group of key children. The key person is there to make a positive relationship with the child and family, monitoring the child’s learning and development. This ensures you and your child continuity of care in nursery giving you a one point of contact and making the settling in process easier, as their special adult is there to support them through it. This small group approach allows each key person an opportunity to monitor their key children’s strengths, interests, and needs, enabling them to plan engaging and effective activities around each individual child’s interests and development.
Key people are allocated on availability and suitability for your child. Although the key person will work hard to create a positive relationship with your child it is not uncommon for a child to make a connection with a different person to their planned key person, in this case we will change their key person to a member of staff they have a better bond with.
The Key person supports your child as they:
• Learn, have fun, and make new friends.
• discover the wonders of nature during woodland activities, mud kitchen play, and working in our vegetable garden.
• Explore, engage, and learn about the world around them.
• focus on learning key skills in preparation for school.
We also operate a buddy system within our key groups allowing both members of staff to work together in supporting your child’s needs and allows continuity for your child if your key person is not in. We have 3 main groups that consist of 2 smaller key groups each:
- Squirrels – Yellow
- Hedgehogs – Blue
- Foxes – Red
